TRUTH BEHIND SOME MYTHS


THERE ARE MANY MYTHS GOING AROUND.THEY ARE HERSEY AND DO NOT HAVE ANY SCIENTIFIC BACKING TO THEM. LET SEE SOME OF THEM.

1. EATING CARBS MAKES YOU FAT.
According to Food Standards Agency, they become fattening only when actual fat is added to it. Moreover their calorie is half that of fat and they tend to be more filling, prompting you to not overeat.

2. DRINK 2 LTRS OF WATER DAILY.
Scientists at the University of Pennyslvania has not found a single study to support this theory. In fact every body may require only about 3/4 ltrs of water and much of this is got from juices,tea,coffee and beer.

3. SLOW METABOLISM MAKES YOU FAT
The reverse, ie fat people burns more fat for every workout, is revealed by a recent study by the university of Chicago, than slim people.

4. IF PREGENT EAT FOR TWO
This is universally believed by about 40% of women, but the truth is that they need only a extra of 200 calories a day and that to only in their last 3 months.

5. TAKE VITAMINS TO LIVE LONGER
One study concludes that popping antioxidant vitamins will not extend one's life.

6. CHOCOLATE GIVES YOU SPOTS
Acne is formed by the affects of hormones on sebaceous oil glands in the skin, stress is also another factor. Chocolate has nothing to do with it.

7.SUGAR MAKES KIDS HYPERACTIVE
Riley Hospital for children in Indianapolis was unable to detect any such effect on children. So sugar does not cause hypertension behaviour in children. It is all in mind.

8. SIT-UP EXERCISE GIVES A FLAT BELLY

9. WHEN YOU SNEEZE YOUR HEART STOPS
No ! only a moment loss about the surroundings. When you sneeze only the heart rate is increased, but geart continues beating.

10.SWEETS CAUSE CAVITIES
Sugar is not the primary cause for teeth cavities. Sugar, as other carbs, is broken in mouth by bacteria, releasing acids that leach minerals from teeth enamel.So proper dental care, ensures teeth to not decay. Sugar like carbs is a good healthy diet, but only moderate quantity is advisable.

NEED TO BE CAREFULL IN SALT INTAKE



High Blood Pressure or hypertension is the biggest risk factor for deaths across the world. Globally 7 million die due to high blood pressure every year, in which many would have been prevented. Over and near to 2 billion people suffer from HBP.

Salt is the major ingredient responsible for the rise in BP. Hypertension is the major risk factor in Cardiovascular disease. It accounts for 65 % in stroke and about 50 % in heart attacks.

Foods of animal orgin contain more sodium than that of vegetable orgin.It is important to take less salt from early days itself rather than changing the lifestyle after developing cardiac problems.

Sodium is needed by the body. It controls fluid balance,blood pressure and blood volume. The kidneys regulate sodium balance. 1 gm of salt contain 0.4 gms of sodium. The recommended average intake of salt by WHO is not more than 1 teaspoon (5-6gms) of salt day.

AVOID THESE:-
1. Don't use table salt.
2. Avoid seasonings high in salt and sodium-use seasoning substitutes instead.
3. Avoid processed foods and salty cheese.
4. Consult your doc before using salt substitues.

FOLLOW THESE:-

1. Meals containg less salt and sodium.
2. use olive oil.
3. Limit fast food items and canned foods, which contain additives rich in sodium.
4. Modify your recipes to include low sodium ingredients.
5. Fresh fruits and vegetables a must.

SODIUM IN OUR FOOD:-
a.More than 400 mg a serving:Cheese,salty potato chips, noodle snacks, pickles, salted nuts, salted fish, smoked meat, soya sauce, canned meats.

b.More than 200-400 mg a serving:- Cookies, burger, cakes,pizza,sandwiches, fried eggs, caramel.

c. Less than 200 mg a serving:- Boiled eggs, fresh fish, fresh cheese,fruits and vegetables, homemade bread/soup, rice, unsalted nuts, plain popcorn, peas, beans,lemon,Orange,sweet corn,guava.
